Since 2005 we have served the needs of the elder population of Key West and the Florida Keys by helping them remain in a familiar environment surrounded by family and friends .
Roberta Markow, R.N., CMC, PGCM, Director Geriatric Care Management (GCM) of the Florida Keys, was raised and spent much of her adult life working and raising her three children at the New Jersey shore. After majoring in psychology at Wheaton College in Massachusetts, she returned to New Jersey to pursue her lifelong dream of becoming a nurse. She completed the R.N. program at Brookdale Community College and began working in the healthcare field as a home health nurse. She was also instrumental in starting hypertension outreach clinics for the Monmouth County( N.J.) Health Department.
With her husband, Roberta moved permanently to Key West, Florida in 1989 and began her Florida career in the healthcare field as a home health care and Quality Assurance nurse for Florida Health Professional Services. When Florida Health was purchased by Palmetto General Hospital, Hialeah and later Tenet Home Health, she took advantage of the opportunity to experience a wide spectrum of the home health and geriatric service industry as: Quality Assurance/ U/R nurse, Intake Coordinator, Field Nurse, On-Call Administrator and Hospital-Medical Community Liaison.
In 2001 she accepted the position of Administrator of Lifeline Private Duty Services for Monroe County. The Private Duty Agency merged with its Medicare certified counterpart, Lifeline Home Health Care where Roberta became Director of Nursing and Key West branch manager.
Upon completion of the graduate Geriatric Care Management certification curriculum at the University of Florida, Roberta opened her own Geriatric Care Management practice in October 2005. The need for her services has been growing and she finds her work with the elderly population not only “extraordinarily satisfying” but filling an increasing need.
As part of her growing commitment to the Florida Keys elder population, Roberta is an advocate and active board member of the Florida Keys Assisted Care Coalition. This project when completed will meet assisted living needs for local residents of all income levels on the beautiful Key West waterfront. She has also been a board member of the InterAgency Council, Lower Keys Heart Council and is a member of the Key West Women’s Club as well as the Key West Garden Club and Key West Botanical Garden.
The proud mother of three daughters and adoring grandmother of two granddaughters, Roberta understands the enormous value of having a Geriatric Care Manager assist her someday, so that she will be able to maintain her life at home without being a burden to her precious family. |
